Might we see variants with said "cannons or other external mounted weapons/pods" in the future? Perhaps grenade launchers, rail guns, mortar systems, UAV docks, radar suites, cruise missile silos and the like, in addition to the placement of reactive armor, a larger shield over one or both arm sockets, communication antennas, and booster rockets for short hops. Combinations could be made for different roles in combat to make a family of variants for this chassis.
Just my humble thought, for I'd love to propose/ collaborate on such combinations.
Either way, excellent piece.
