Shinden Rifle 2 by MeganeRid Shinden Rifle 2 by MeganeRid
3D version of the standard rifle for the Shinden

normal and wireframe render

I'm in progress of making the 3D version of the whole thing for another IndoCG 3d mecha challenge (need deadline to make me work faster hahah), I figure I'd post this rifle cos I'm done modeling it :P

modeled in maya, rendered with mental ray, total about 6k verts I think

How does the mecha hold it? if it is with a pair of 'hands' then there is no room to put it's thumb. Bullpup rifles, like this one, always have a space between the handle and the magazine where as in this case, the handle merges in with the magazine leaving no way for the mecha to hold it.

And if the mecha won't hold it like a rifle and it just gets clipped/mounted to the arm, why bother putting the handle in at all?

I've never held a rifle before so I might've got it wrong, so thanks for the input. I'll see how it fits the arms after I finish modeling them, and make changes accordingly :)

And the mecha should be holding it like a rifle ;d

coolio; have a look at the Styer AUG; it's the most like the design that you're going for. Note: You could say that the mecha holds onto the front part of that handle; I've seen some designs go that way but the reality is that it's not particularly practical when you actually put the handle in the hand.

Anyways, good progress so far.
