Spec Ops Pilot 1 by MeganeRid Spec Ops Pilot 1 by MeganeRid
Lowres version of the highres model I did sometime ago, real time rendered with marmoset. Around 13k tris. one 2k texture for the whole thing excluding the gun. Overdid the wears on some parts so I'll probably change the texture a bit and also do separate renders for the gun and rifle later.

Hope you like!

Highres done in Zbrush, lowres in maya and zbrush, texture in photoshop

Love the design and grit. The fact that this rendered in Marmoset at 13k tris is outstanding as well.
If I may inject slight insight as a professional warfighter. Pilots tend to show wear mostly around the ankle, quadricep, wrist, and trapezoid areas typically due to gear and cockpit layout. If you're going to differentiate the various materials of the suit, they would be a good thing to consider. Especially if he's a badass veteran pilot. Also the pistol would normally be located somewhere accessible but out of the way and the knife would most likely be very accessible at the side or thigh. That way if he had to emergency egress he could cut the harness and get out quickly.
Just creative food for thought. Love the model and I am totally a sucker for the near futuristic "space" Marine designs.

Thanks for the inputs!
He's the pilot for the Fuujin, [link] which I've been modeling in 3D ;d More would be appreciated :D Where do pilots usually put their guns? (they do have one right?) This is more of a normal soldier's pistol holster I guess.
I'll probably move the knife, as it would be a bit uncomfortable to have it back there when he sits haha
There's also the rifle which I haven't put up yet Xd

Looking at the Fuujin (cool design by the way), His rifle would most likely be stashed in the cockpit itself.
As a note to that, most modern militaries will issue either a carbine or a sidearm but not typically both. However since he is special operations he could have both.
The holster of the pistol looks fine, pilots tend to have most of the same gear as the ground guys anyway for training purposes.
As for placement, most pilots I know tend to have their sidearms located on the thigh or as high on the chest as possible without limiting their neck's range of motion. The chest area for pilots tends to be just as busy as any other warfighter since that's the only area really accessible during flight.

ah I see, I'll probably move the knife to his left thigh then :)

I love how the placement o the sidearm and knife fit into the armour so well.

Only thing I noticed was that the smaller plates above the quadricep plates would get in the way once you bring your body to an angular seated position. Which, I've been told, pilots occasionally do ;p

It's a bad ass look all over, this.

13k tris and it was rendered no problem with Marmoset??

WOW. Need to look into that.

Is this for a game?

Marmoset is a real time viewer so these are just screen capture really, anyway nah just personal work :)

Ahhh okay, I gotcha! The work looks solid. I don't think there's too much wear, personally, but everyone seems to think so. O.o

Wear looks fine but more material differentiation to generate interest might help.

Couple easy things you can do is to push the blue hue of the undersuit more aggressively so it reads better beneath the armor, make the visor texture a little less noisy to draw the eye (they do the same with Master Chief in Halo, his visor is cleaner than everything else.) and consider pushing the holstered gun and knife into a different hue range/material (they're getting swallowed into the greebles).

Nice values though. Subtle but I can see what you were going for :)
